about
VT gang,
The day has finally come. For almost a year now we've been writting, fighting, arguing, spending, writing, driving, recording, screaming, shredding and whatnot, to bring to you what we called "Damaged Goods."
"Lyrically, this song was written about dealing with my own diagnosed state of psychosis in the middle of 2015, anxiety, and the intense overwhelming feeling of anger I've been dealing with for a long time now. When your thoughts don't make any sense, and all you can think of is violence, and your dreams are taken over by night terrors, terrifying nightmares that keep you up, visions that make you dread going to bed, the best way I found to cope with it all was to put it into words." - Kevin
We've decided to ask our friend Trevor Gillbride of Abhorrence to do a guest part on this song because his band's latest full lenght "Wither:Decay" helped me (Kevin) tremedously to get through all those things. The raw anger I felt and was able to identify myself in throughout the record made me appreciate the band that much more and it's an absolute honor to have his vocals on a song of our own.
We've decided to release the song with Kevin's vocals even though he recently left. We have all worked incredibly hard on this song and along with being very proud of our accomplishment felt we had not choice but to release it so you the fans could finally have a taste of Violent Tides.
We believe we can all relate to this song, as every member of the band has been damaged in some way, and has been able to relate to some of the lyrical content. We hope that you can find appreciation for the instrumental portion of this song, as much as the words we wrote. As much as this is for us it is also for all of you, our loyal fans. Over the past few years you have carried us to new heights and kept us going. Thank you all and enjoy!
lyrics
There’s nowhere to go but forward from here
Without me there is no you
I am a loaded gun
I’m the apex predator
Forget everything you’ve come to know about me
Despite what you think
I’m that man any longer
My mind’s in the gutter
And I’ve served my time
For I am violence
For I’ve been lost
You’re a wasted opportunity
and I am damaged goods
I’ve seen the end of the world
I’ve seen the darkest of evil
The demons dance as I clench my jaw
My open hands become the strongest fist
A dark presence haunts me
Provoking a fiery rage
Washing in my hands in the blood of the hate inside of me
Despite what you think
I’m that man any longer
My mind’s in the gutter
And I’ve served my time
Despite what you think
I’m not the man I used to be
My mind’s in the gutter
And I’ve served my sentence
I am the mess that can’t be cleaned
I am the internal bleeding
To hell with you
I find solace in violence
The bludgeoning is strangely soothing
Finding comfort in my agony
Taking pills to rebuild a conscience
[Trevor Gilbride of Abhorrence]
Slip in my mind as I wither away
I can’t see straight anymore
Open opinions they fill my mind
Taking pills to build the confidence
I can’t see straight.
